Sixth Form Aims, Culture & Ethos

Aim for Excellence

Every student should strive for excellence in all they do in order to reach their goals. Hard work and the ability to work independently are central to the ethos of the Sixth Form.

Students who have been successful at GCSE know already what hard work can bring. It is essential to transfer and further develop that work ethic, recognising that your progress and achievement will be examined during Year 12. These results will be crucial to your progress to Year 13. Your success will be the direct result of the hard work you put into your studies. To succeed at AS/A Levels, it is necessary to be able to develop higher order skills such as analysis and evaluation. This is achievable but will depend on the extra work you complete outside your taught lessons.

What does this mean for you?

  • 100% attendance to lessons and mentoring sessions.
  • Punctuality to lessons is vital – use your time constructively.
  • Complete all tasks on time but seek help if unsure.
  • Prepare thoroughly for all your lessons. There is rarely a time when you have nothing to do!
  • Read around the topics studied.
  • Review work from previous lessons.
  • Revise work.
  • Practise examination questions.
