About This Course
This course requires an enthusiasm for fashion, costume, design and the visual arts, as well as imagination and an enquiring mind. You will explore the work of an extensive range of textiles artists and designers and have the opportunity to access media such as machine embroidery, batik, silk painting, felt making, screen printing, hand embroidery, dying fabric, appliqué, fashion illustration and garment construction, to create a broad and extensive portfolio. You are encouraged to express you own artistic identity and will explore independently identified themes. As far as possible the course will be tailored to support your own interests. 

Course Content & Assessment
AQA A Level Textiles consists of two parts Component 1: Personal Investigation 60% and Component 2: Externally Set Assignment 40%. Following a series of portfolio workshops you will start component one where you have complete freedom to select the idea, concept or theme for your ‘Personal Investigation’. Your practical work will be presented in sketchbooks and supported by written reflection. (1000-3000 words).

For component two AQA provide a range of ideas or concepts, you choose one to explore and develop into a final piece.This is completed during 15 hours of supervised time.

What could this course lead to?
A Level Textile Design can lead to higher qualifications, such as the Foundation Diploma and Degree. It can also lead to a variety of careers including Fashion Design, Fashion Marketing, Fashion Promotion, Costume Design, Textile Artist, Textile Design and Interior Design.


What do I need to study this course?
Grade 6+ or equivalent in either:
GCSE Textiles
GCSE Art & Design
GCSE Photography
or 
approval of portfolio
